The medical experts expressed these views while addressing training workshops on the occasion of Life Savers Day organized by the Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA). The session was held in 84 mosques in Punjab, 42 mosques in Sindh, 37 mosques in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and 5 mosques in Azad Kashmir. This was stated by Cardiologists while addressing the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences and Pakistan Hypertension League in Karachi on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, eminent cardiologists of Pakistan said that the local pharmaceutical industry should also provide funds to medical students and doctors for research so that research could be done on local causes and treatment of diseases.
On the occasion, the Pakistan Hypertension League and Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences signed a memorandum of understanding to release the first Hypertension Research Award under which a grant of up to Rs 300,000 would be provided to doctors and researchers for research in the health sector. Funding for medical research will be provided by Formio Research Form.
Cardiologist Prof Muhammad Ishaq said that medical research has not been a priority of any Pakistani government, but now is the time for the government not only to provide more funds for the sector but also to legislate for the local pharma industry. He said that there is a need for local research for the diseases found in the Pakistani people and their treatment so that the causes of the growing diseases in the population of Pakistan can be prevented and a better lifestyle with treatment for them. Guidelines can be issued.
Shaukat Ali Javed, Editor-in-Chief of Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences, said that the purpose of this award and grant is to promote medical research in Pakistan and to attract young doctors to research.
