The federal minister said that while subsidizing consumers, the federal and provincial governments would ensure that half of their strategic reserves were through 5 million tonnes of imported wheat, while the government was working to meet half of the strategic needs of wheat. If it is procured from abroad, the pressure on domestic availability of wheat will be lessened.
He further said that banking credit lines for procurement of wheat would be available only to flour mills and those who are registered with the government, adding that the credit line application would mention the storage facilities for wheat, flour mills, and wheat But the mills will have to grind the wheat and not stockpile it for further sale. The government will take steps to curb stockpiling.
