: Pakistan suspends collection of sales tax on fresh fruits imported from Afghanistan

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has barred the Collectorate of Customs from collecting sales tax on fresh fruit imports from Afghanistan through a presidential ordinance a few days ago. Only sales tax on apple imports from Afghanistan should be collected. Fruit imports from Afghanistan will not be subject to sales tax.

A letter has been issued by Abdul Hameed Marwat, Chief Customs Facilitation, and Compliance, FBR, which has been confirmed by FBR officials. In which it has been stated that sales tax will not be levied on the import of fresh fruits from Afghanistan, sales tax will be applicable only on the import of apples from Afghanistan.
The letter further said that in the Third Amendment Ordinance on Tax Laws issued by the President, sales tax was imposed on the import of fresh fruits from Afghanistan. picked up. The matter was reviewed to allay the concerns of the Border Chamber of Commerce, in the light of which sales tax would not be levied on the import of all fresh fruits except apples from Afghanistan.

FBR officials said that a sales tax was imposed on the import of all fresh fruits from Afghanistan by mistake in the presidential ordinance. However, sales tax will be applicable on the import of apples as the apples come from Iran.
