The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has issued instructions to obtain the prior consent of the customers before activating the mobile operator Covely Aided Services.
According to a statement issued by PTA in this regard, PTA has directed the cellular mobile operators to send the necessary confirmation messages to their customers to enable value-added services so that clear consent can be obtained.
Operators are further instructed to submit a report within three weeks of the order being issued. PTA had received complaints from users that sometimes mobile operators activate third-party content, games, and other value-added services without the prior consent of the users.
The PTA has taken serious note of such complaints as activating any value-added services without the explicit consent of the consumers is a violation of clause (vii) (3) 9 of the Telecom Consumer Protection Regulations 2009. The PTA statement hopes that the move will make it easier for mobile users. PTA is committed to protecting the interests of consumers of telecommunication services in Pakistan.
